Myths and truths about foreigners (and the marriage with them) - Part 1/5

This post was originally too long, so I divided it into 5 parts so the reading won't be exhausting or boring...
This subject can be a little delicate or cause misunderstandings, but let's go... 
  
Some people in Brazil may have a distorted view that a Brazilian girl's life who gets married a foreign guy (or of a Brazilian guy that gets married with a foreign woman too) is always a bed of roses. In fact, it has its wonders and difficulties as any marriage, like any other relationship. There is nothing rosy in real life, it is what it is. And I'm not saying that it's bad, just normal! Also, some people abroad may have a different view of reality of how it is to be married to a Brazilian. of course it's no crime to think so, but sometimes we let ourselves be carried away by media stereotypes: Carnival, Brazilian bums, samba, football (soccer), Pelé, Rio de Janeiro, favelas... and our Brazil has so many other beauties for us to talk about, huh? =)

Anyway, so here we go:

Part 1 - Every foreigner is rich

 

No, what happens is the currency of some of them (either sterling, dollars or euros, for example) has greater value than our "Dilma" (actual Brazilian president) [Brazilian Real BRL (R$)]. In their country many are middle class actually, living normally (and of course with all benefits of living in a first world country), like any normal person. The fact that "gringos" (how we call foreigners) come to Brazil and spend a lot of money, enjoy all the best, doesn't mean that they are rich, but they obviously gain in a money conversion to our money as they have a better and stronger economic situation (their countries) and their money has greater value than our and, moreover, who doesn't like to enjoy all the best when you can or when you are on vacation? But, for example, our money is still worth more than "peso" (MXN) and "peso" (ARS), so not every gringo is rich, just as not every gringo is poor. We can also enjoy our money in countries that have a weaker currency than ours. Generalizing is always a problem in any statement, but depending on the origin country of the foreigner in question and the currency that he/;she will use to convert, he/she can arrive here in Brazil with more than enough money, yeah.  Anyway, just know that to marry a gringo doesn't mean neither "to have hit the jackpot" nor "winning the lottery".

Mitos e verdades sobre gringos (e o casamento com eles) - Parte 1/5

Devido  o assunto ter se estendido, dividi o post pra leitura não fica cansativa e enjoativa...
Esse assunto pode ser um tanto delicado ou causar mal entendidos, mas vamos lá... 

Algumas pessoas aqui no Brasil podem ter uma visão deturpada de que a vida de mulheres que casam com gringos (ou homens casados com gringas) é um mar de rosas sempre. Na verdade, tem suas maravilhas e dificuldades como qualquer casamento, como qualquer outro relacionamento entre homem e mulher. Não há nada de mar de rosas na vida real, ela é o que ela é. E não estou dizendo que é ruim. Apenas normal!

Além disso, algumas pessoas no exterior podem ter uma visão diferente da realidade do que realmente É ser casado com um (a) brasileiro (a). Não é nenhum crime pensar assim, claro! Cada qual com seu cada qual... Mas às vezes nos deixamos levar pelos estereótipos da mídia: carnaval, bunda, samba e futebol, Pelé, Rio de Janeiro, favelas... E nosso Brasil tem tantas outras belezas pra nos ligarmos só nisso, né? =)

Enfim, então vamos lá:

Parte 1- Todo gringo é rico

Não. O que acontece é que a moeda de alguns deles (seja libras esterlinas, dólares ou euros...) tem valor maior do que a nossa "Dilma" [Real BRL (R$)]. No país deles, muitos são de classe média na verdade, vivendo normalmente (e claro com os muitos benefícios que se tem de morar num país de primeiro mundo, óbvio), como qualquer pessoa comum. O fato dos gringos virem pro Brasil e gastarem horrores, aproveitar tudo que há de melhor não quer dizer que eles sejam ricos, mas eles realmente saem ganhando numa conversão de dinheiro da moeda deles pra nossa, já que tem valor maior e, além disso, quem não gosta de usufruir tudo do bom e do melhor quando se pode ou quando está de férias? Mas, por exemplo, nosso dinheiro ainda vale mais que o "peso mexicano" (MXN) e "peso argentino" (ARS), então nem todo gringo é rico, assim como nem todo gringo é pobre. Nós também conseguimos usufruir bem do nosso dinheiro em países com a moeda mais fraca que a nossa. Generalizar é sempre um problema em qualquer afirmação. Mas, dependendo do país de origem do gringo em questão e da moeda que ele vai usar pra converter, ele pode chegar aqui no Brasil com bastante dinheiro sim. Mas casar com um não significa "ter tirado a sorte grande" ou "ter ganhado na loteria".

Applying for IELTS Life Skills A1 Speaking & Listening

As I had already mentioned here before (Post about What is necessary), to apply for a spouse visa (family of a settled person, to join their partner for a long stay, living permanently in the UK), one of the pre-requirements of the British Government is that you perform a proficiency exam in English language and reach the grade of A1. They give you a list in their website of local official testing centres where you can perform this exam according to your origin country and get the certificate that will be acceptable by them when they analyze your documents for the visa.

Here in Brazil, you perform the exam by British Council - IELTS for UK Visas Life Skills A1 Speaking and Listening exam. The website is available in Portuguese and English and you can see all the information there.

So, the step-by-step to book your exam is:

- Register on IELTS website and fill up all your personal data, and some professional ones, that they will ask you.

- Choose the Brazilian State which you want to perform the exam, the month and date, according to a list of availability they give you during the register. The exam may be done in a few Brazilian capitals like São Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, for example. I chose São Paulo due to the high possibility of getting a flying ticket in a promotion price from Belém to there and also because I have a friend who lives there and It will be one less thing to spend with (accommodation) as I will stay at hers.

When you have finished filling out each step of the form, they request you to review to avoid any problems in the future. If your data doesn't match 100%, according to your original document in the day of the exam, you'll be unable to perform It. That's why all the attention is necessary!!

Moreover, It's important to pay attention to this tip: they don't accept identification documents that aren't a passport or national identity document (RG in Brazil) to register in the exam. that's why you don't need to try to use another identity document (like your drivers license or employment record card for example), because when it comes to the crunch they won't accept and you'll have wasted your money once they don't give the value you invested back to you.

Besides you'll be following the step-by-step process until the last confirmation with the terms and conditions.
To complete your application, you must follow the instructions of payment (deposit or bank transfer in 2 days in maximum) and send an e-mail confirming the payment with some docs attached, within 5 days after this e-mail you receive a confirmation by them of your application.

Well, I'm making my application today to perform the exam on 6th May 2016. The cost of this exam is BRL 885 (Brazilian Real).

Aplicando pro IELTS life skills A1 speaking & listening

Como eu já havia mencionado aqui  (Post sobre o que é necessário), para aplicar para o visto de esposa com residência (permanência) definitiva no Reino Unido, um dos pré-requisitos do Governo Britânico é que você realize uma prova de proficiência na língua inglesa e atinja a nota A1 no resultado. Eles apresentam uma lista no site deles de locais oficiais onde você pode realizar essa prova, de acordo com o seu país de origem, e obter o certificado que será reconhecido por eles no momento de avaliar seus documentos pro visto. 

Aqui no Brasil, você realiza a prova pelo British Council - prova IELTS for UK Visas Like Skills A1 Speaking and Listening. O site está disponível em português e inglês e você pode visualizar todas essas informações lá.

Então, o passo-a-passo para agendar a prova é:

- Criar um cadastro no site do IELTS e preencher todos os dados pessoais que eles pedirem e alguns profissionais. 

- Escolher o Estado brasileiro em que você queira realizar a prova, o mês e dia de acordo com uma lista de disponibilidade que eles oferecem. A prova pode ser realizada em algumas capitais do país como São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro ou Brasília, por exemplo. 

Eu escolhi São Paulo devido a maior possibilidade de conseguir uma promoção de passagem aérea daqui de Belém para lá e também por ter uma amiga que mora na capital e será um gasto a menos com hospedagem, pois ficarei hospedada na casa dela.

À medida que você vai preenchendo alguns dados, logo em seguida eles já solicitam que você faça a revisão dos mesmos para não haver nenhum problema. Caso algum dado não esteja 100% de acordo com o seu documento original na hora da prova então você ficará impossibilitada(o) de realizá-la. Por isso, muita atenção é necessária!

Além disso, é importante atentar pra dica: eles não aceitam documentos de identificação que não sejam o passaporte ou o RG (carteira de identidade nacional) para o registro na prova. Por isso nem tente preencher os dados com sua carteira de habilitação ou carteira de trabalho por exemplo, porque na hora H eles não aceitarão e será dinheiro jogado fora, já que eles não fazem devolução do valor investido.

No mais, você vai seguindo o passo-a-passo lá até a última confirmação de que você concorda com os termos e condições.

Para concluir sua inscrição, você deve seguir as instruções para pagamento (depósito ou transferência bancária no prazo máximo de 2 dias) e enviar um e-mail de confirmação do pagamento do mesmo com alguns documentos em anexo e em até 5 dias após esse envio de documentos eles enviam a confirmação da inscrição. 

Bom, eu estou preenchendo meus dados hoje para realizar a prova dia 06 de maio de 2016. O valor da  prova é R$885,00 (reais brasileiros).

They paint us all as clowns...

I confess, I wasn't even a bit interested in writing about politics here on the blog, but I follow some others Brazilian bloggers who are already living abroad and realize the indignation of them when see the news that comes across by Facebook, Twitter, TV, etc. It made me stop and think a bit that not only we (Brazilians who are still in the country or the ones who won't leave) that suffer because of this situation, that get upset cause tremendous shame, so much crime, both theft and so many lies, so much hypocrisy! Any honest person that faces the real and current situation of Brazil has the same reaction: "What's happening in Brazil?" Nobody understands! No one can understand! There is no logic or explanation for the circus that was built here... Unfortunately! It's revolting!

Do you know what is the worst part in it? It's that we are obligued to vote on these corrupt politicians. They are like one worse than the other and our mentality goes to "ok, who's the least worst?" and actually we aren't happy to vote for any of them!

When we go to research about their past in politics, if they have a clean record or not, if they have been involved with corruption before or laundering money, all of this, no one is left over! Impressive!

But in each 4 years, in October, here we go to vote... again, we must, right? And the disappointment comes after, while they fill their pockets with money because of the very high taxes we pay here and don't give anything in return.

Health, education, security, sanitation, where is it? Where?

General crisis, economic crisis, political crisis,.. so sad...

And it doesn't end there! There's still people defending the scoundrels. In my opinion, all of them should leave their jobs, regardless of political party. Did they steal? Have to be arrested! No citizen, being a politician or not, is not above the law.

I'm not going to get into this way too much, I just think that even leaving the country, I won't stop getting surprised with such a mess that our country is...

Somos todos palhaços...

Confesso, eu não estava nem um pouco interessada em escrever sobre política aqui no blog, mas acompanho alguns outros blogs de brasileiras que estão morando no exterior e percebo a indignação delas ao se deparar com as notícias via Facebook, Twitter, TV, etc. Isso me fez parar um pouco e pensar que não somos só nós (brasileiros que ainda estamos aqui no país ou que daqui não sairão) que sofremos com isso, que nos abalamos com tremenda pouca vergonha, tanta criminalidade, tanto roubo, tanta mentira, tanta hipocrisia! Qualquer pessoa íntegra ao se deparar com a real e atual situação do Brasil tem a mesma reação: "O que está acontecendo no Brasil?" Ninguém entende! Ninguém consegue entender! Não há lógica nem explicação para tal circo que foi montado aqui... Infelizmente! É de se revoltar!

Sabe o que é o pior? É sermos obrigados a votar nesse povo, porque é um pior que o outro e a mentalidade vai pro 'menos pior' sendo que, na verdade, não gostaríamos de votar é em nenhum deles. Quando vamos pesquisar o passado, se é ficha limpa ou não, envolvimento com sistemas de corrupção, lavagem de dinheiro, tudo isso, não sobra um que preste! Impressionante! Mas de 4 em 4 anos no mês de Outubro, lá vamos nós.... somos obrigados, né? E a decepção vem depois enquanto eles enchem o bolso de grana por conta dos impostos (altíssimos) que pagamos aqui e não dão retorno em nada. 

 

Saúde, educação, segurança, saneamento? Cadê? Onde? 

Crise geral, crise econômica, crise política... triste.

E para completar, ainda tem gente que defende os canalhas! Por mim tirava todos de lá, independente de partido político. Roubou? Tem que ser preso! Nenhum cidadão, político ou não, está acima das leis.

Não vou me aprofundar muito não, só penso que nem saindo do país pararei de me surpreender com tamanha bagunça que o nosso país é...

My husband's Portuguese

Hey up!

When I met Daniel in 2013 he only knew how to say, and barely, by the way (Sorry love! But it is true! LOL) these words below:

Over time, the particular teacher here was improving his vocabulary and now he can already speak several words and form some sentences.

We do a lot of games together in a try to improve this new language in his mind. There are some errors sometimes, I confess, but I always think it's so cute (and don't cause embarassment) that I don't repair some things and we laugh together.

POST IT GAME

Every week he picks 5 new things for learning how to speak it in Portuguese, so I tell him how to speak and how to write it. He notes in the post it and paste it exactly on the place that the object is. It is great in learning because he can see the object (eg: bed, wall, mirror, curtain making, chair, door, etc) and read the name of the object in Portuguese until he memorizes and no longer need to read it. 

 SIMILAR WORDS GAME

I choose similar words in Portuguese and tell him the meaning in English, after a while I ask him the translation exchanging orders quickly to see if he memorizes or if he gets confused and makes a mistake (what I would understand as he didn't learn at all)For example: perto - close, preto - black / quem-who, o que-what, quando-when, quanto-how much, etc.I have also given him those tips that many English words ending in "tion", end in Portuguese with "ção" as communication-comunicação / fraction-fracção / fiction - ficção / exportation - exportação / lotion - loção / affirmation - afirmação and that many words ending in "ly" in English has the ending "mente" in Portuguese and finally-finalmente / formally - formalmente / virtually - virtualmente and this makes it much easier ...
 But there is still a lot to learn, and it's still very funny follow this development of him. As when he writes a word in Portuguese the way he imagines the sound in English, for example the end of the meal: "Eu estou muito cheyou" = "I am very 'cheio" or 'full' "Or when he tries to understand things in Portuguese is preceded by articles (O, A) and some end with these same vowels (the bed- A cama, mirror - o espelho, chair- a cadeira, car-o carro, etc.) and then he tries to use: "I love you too marida" or "why the mirror is male?" hahaha
 

P.s: marido is husband in Portuguese but we only use esposa for wife, never marida

 I'll never forget the first time he spoke "ééégua" (Pará State expression that you can better understand here in this post or in its Portuguese version) and all the profanity words (which he never forgets and is also funny). 

There was a moment when we were having a beer in England and he wanted to order for more to the waiter and surprised me with a "ei moço, mais uma cerveja por favor" = "hey boy, another beer please"Another funny thing is so famous SAUDADE word that only exists in Portuguese language (the feeling when you miss someone or something)He says "saudade" remembers "sausage" (salsicha in Portuguese)And tells me that we'll kill the sausage soon ...

 OK! To be fair, in fact, he knows a lot! His teacher (me) also feel very proud of his result in learning and also have much fun!

O português do meu marido

Quando conheci o Daniel em 2013 ele só sabia falar (e malmente, diga-se de passagem! Desculpa amor, mas é verdade rs) essas palavras abaixo 

Com o tempo a professora particular aqui foi aperfeiçoando esse vocabulário dele e hoje ele já sabe falar várias palavras e formar algumas frases. 
A gente faz muitas brincadeiras juntos pra aperfeiçoar esse novo idioma na mente dele. Há alguns erros, eu confesso, mas eu sempre acho tão bonitinho que algumas coisas eu não conserto e achamos graça juntos

JOGO DO POST IT

 

Semanalmente ele escolhe 5 coisas pra aprender a falar em português e eu digo pra ele como se fala e como se escreve. Ele anota no post it e cola no lugar do objeto. Funciona muito bem na aprendizagem porque ele consegue visualizar o objeto (por exemplo: cama, parede, espelho, cortina, tomada, cadeira, porta, etc) e já ler a palavra em português. Até que ele memoriza e não precisa mais ler.

JOGO DAS PALAVRAS SIMILARES

Eu mesma escolho palavras similares em português e digo pra ele os significados em inglês, depois de um tempo pergunto a tradução trocando as ordens rapidamente pra ver se ele memoriza
Por exemplo: perto, preto / quem, qual, quando, quanto, etc

Eu também já dei as dicas pra ele de que muitas palavras em inglês terminadas em "tion" terminam em português com "ção" como comunicação-communication / fraction-fracção / fiction - ficção / exportantion - exportação / lotion - loção / affirmation - afirmação e que muitas palavras terminadas em "ly" em inglês tem a terminação "mente" em português como finally-finalmente / formally - formalmente / virtually - virtualmente e isso facilita bastante...

Mas ainda há muito o que aprender,  e ainda é muito engraçado acompanhar esse desenvolvimento dele. Como quando ele escreve uma palavra em português do jeito que ele imagina o som em inglês, por exemplo ao fim da refeição: "estou muito cheyou" (cheio - full) (you = você)

Ou quando ele tenta entender que as coisas em português são antecedidas por artigos (O, A) e algumas terminam com essas mesmas vogais (a cama, o espelho, a mesa, a cadeira, o carro, etc) e aí ele tenta usar: "também te amo marida" ou "por quê o espelho é masculino?" hahaha

É fofo! Não adianta! Eu adoro!

Nunca vou esquecer da primeira vez que ele falou "ééégua" (expressão paraense que você pode entender melhor aqui neste post ou na versão em inglês dele) e todos os palavrões (que ele não esquece jamais). 

Quando estávamos tomando uma cervejinha lá na Inglaterra ele foi pedir mais pro garçom e me surpreendeu com um: "ei moço, mais uma cerveja por favor"

Outra coisa engraçada é a tão famosa palavra SAUDADE, que só existe no idioma português

Ele diz que "saudade" lembra "sausage" (salsicha)

E que vamos matar a sausage logo...

Ok.. pra ser justa, na verdade, ele já sabe um monte! A professora também sente muito orgulho do resultado e se diverte bastante

The step-by-step to the wedding

English Bridegroom (living in England) v Brazilian bride (living in Brazil)

Marriage in Brazil - 2015

1. Check in your city which notary performs marriage abroad. In Belém - Pará, this type of marriage is only performed at the 1st Civil Wedding District, on Wednesday and Fridays mornings

2. In England, he (she) has to request the full birth certificate (an updated copy) overal official office. This document took about 30 days to get ready (this period was for a person who doesn't live in London, I believe it should take less time for someone who lives in the capital)
3. The groom (or the bride) in England needs a copy of your passport (the page with the photo, but the photo doesn't need to be colored) signed and acknowledged by a notary public and also a marital status certificate (certificate of no impediment to marriage [certificate of being single])
4. With these three documents in hand, it needs to be sent to the FCO - Foreign and Commonwealth Office - GOV.UK to stamp first and then to the Consulate General of Brazil in London for stamping and recognize them as genuine docs.
5. These two stages of the FCO and the Brazilian Consulate took around 15 days to be completed and then the future husband (or future wife) sends the documents to Brazil
6. The person who is in Brazil takes the documents in English for a sworn translator of your city to translate to Portuguese. Our documents were ready in aboout three days because the sworng guy was wonderful and has accelerated the process for us, I can pass the contact to whom you need.
7. The person who is here in Brazil also need a certifies copy and the original of its updated birth certificate, a simple copy of the ID (identity document) and CPF (Brazilian National insurance number) to present in the office. If the Brazilian already have the ID doc that contains the numbers of your Social Security number, so it is okay just take this document.
8. The registry itself gives them a civil state declaration in which you fill with data from the bride and groom and their marital status. This document must also be signed by two persons as witnesses and these signatures must be recognized before handing over the office. 
   
9. Foreign partner must be in Brazil at least 15 days before the wedding date to submit to the Federal Police and request a statement of the legal period in the country. This statement was delivered at the same time of the request for us.
10. The couple must address registry for the groom to present and sign the wedding schedule and deliver the statement of the Federal Police (which is one of the documents required for them to perform the wedding)
11. The presence of someone translating everything during the cerimony is at the discretion of the couple. It is not something that they require. We preferred to rely on the presence of one, which by the way was wonderful during the whole ceremony!
12. You will need at least two people as witnesses to sign at the time of the ceremony. We had so many people there celebrating with us that we didn't need to worry about that. Ah! And it is not necessary that these people are exactly the same witnesses of marital status statement that I told you above.

Important informations:

• The official translation of documents should be held in Brazil. I figured if I knew someone in another country to translate into Portuguese, the groom could send already translated, but no. I can't explain why, but it was what they guided me to do, then that's my little tip.
• The documents must be received by the office to schedule the wedding 30 to 40 days prior to the date you want the wedding to be held. They do research during this period to confirm if the couple are not married or had other reason that would prevent them to get married.

Casamento no Brasil - 2015

1. Verificar na sua cidade qual cartório realiza casamento com estrangeiro. Em Belém - Pará somente é realizado este tipo de casamento no 1º Distrito de casamento civil às quartas e sextas-feiras pela manhã

2. Na Inglaterra, ele(a) tem que solicitar a certidão de nascimento (cópia atualizada) no cartório oficial geral. Esse documento demorou cerca de 30 dias para ficar pronto (porque o noivo não mora em Londres, acredito que deve levar menos tempo pra quem mora na capital)
3. O noivo(a) na Inglaterra também precisa de uma cópia do passaporte (página com a foto, mas a foto não precisa ser colorida) assinada e reconhecida por um notary public e uma declaração de estado civil (certificado de não impedimento para o casamento [atestado de solteiro])
4. Com esses três documentos em mãos, ele os encaminha para o FCO - Foreign & Commonwealth Office - GOV.UK para carimbar primeiro e depois para o Consulado-Geral do Brasil em Londres para carimbar e reconhecê-los como genuínos.
5. Essas duas etapas do FCO e do Consulado Brasileiro demoraram em torno de 15 dias para serem finalizadas e então o futuro marido (ou futura esposa) envia os documentos para o Brasil
6. A pessoa que está no Brasil leva os documentos em inglês para um tradutor público juramentado da sua cidade traduzir para o português. Os nossos documentos ficaram prontos em mais ou menos 3 dias porque ele foi maravilhoso e deu uma acelerada no processo pra gente, posso passar o contato a quem precisar.
7. A pessoa que está aqui no Brasil também precisa de uma cópia autenticada e a original da sua certidão de nascimento atualizada, uma cópia simples da carteira de identidade e do CPF para apresentar no cartório. Se o brasileiro já tiver a carteira de identidade que contenha a numeração do seu CPF serve só este documento mesmo.
8. O próprio cartório lhes entrega uma Declaração de estado civil em que você preenche com os dados dos noivos e seus respectivos estados civis. Esse documento precisa estar assinado também por duas pessoas como testemunhas e essas assinaturas devem ser reconhecidas  antes de entregar no cartório.

1. O estrangeiro (a) deve estar no Brasil pelo menos 15 dias antes da data do casamento para se apresentar à Polícia Federal e solicitar uma declaração do período legal no país. Essa declaração nos foi entregue no mesmo momento da solicitação 
2. O casal deve se dirigir a cartório para o noivo se apresentar e assinar o agendamento do casamento e para entregar ao cartório a declaração da Polícia Federal (que é um dos documentos exigidos por eles para realizarem o casamento)
3. A presença de um tradutor durante a cerimônia fica a critério do casal, não é algo que o cartório exija, nós preferimos contar com a presença de um, que por sinal foi maravilhoso durante a cerimônia toda!
4. Vocês precisarão de pelo menos duas pessoas como testemunhas para assinar ma hora da cerimônia. Nós tínhamos tanta gente lá celebrando conosco que não precisamos nos preocupar com isso. Ah! E não é necessário que essas pessoas sejam exatamente as mesmas testemunhas da Declaração de estado civil que eu falei acima.

Informações importantes:

• A tradução juramentada dos documentos deve ser realizada no Brasil. Eu imaginei que se conhecesse alguém no outro país que traduza para o seu idioma, o noivo já poderia enviar traduzido #SQN (não sei explicar o motivo, mas foi o que me orientaram a fazer, então passo a dica adiante)
• Tem que dar entrada dos documentos no cartório e agendamento com 30 a 40 dias de antecedência da data que querem que o casamento seja realizado. Eles fazem uma pesquisa durante este período para confirmar que os noivos não são casados ou não tem outro motivo que os impediriam de casar
