When I met Daniel in 2013 he only knew how to say, and barely, by the way (Sorry love! But it is true! LOL) these words below:
Over time, the particular teacher here was improving his vocabulary and now he can already speak several words and form some sentences.
We do a lot of games together in a try to improve this new language in his mind. There are some errors sometimes, I confess, but I always think it's so cute (and don't cause embarassment) that I don't repair some things and we laugh together.
POST IT GAME
Every week he picks 5 new things for learning how to speak it in Portuguese, so I tell him how to speak and how to write it. He notes in the post it and paste it exactly on the place that the object is. It is great in learning because he can see the object (eg: bed, wall, mirror, curtain making, chair, door, etc) and read the name of the object in Portuguese until he memorizes and no longer need to read it.
SIMILAR WORDS GAME
I choose similar words in Portuguese and tell him the meaning in English, after a while I ask him the translation exchanging orders quickly to see if he memorizes or if he gets confused and makes a mistake (what I would understand as he didn't learn at all)For example: perto - close, preto - black / quem-who, o que-what, quando-when, quanto-how much, etc.I
have also given him those tips that many English words ending in "tion", end
in Portuguese with "ção" as communication-comunicação / fraction-fracção / fiction - ficção / exportation - exportação / lotion - loção /
affirmation - afirmação and that many words ending in "ly" in English has the ending "mente" in

P.s: marido is husband in Portuguese but we only use esposa for wife, never marida

Menina, você é uma ótima professora. Eu dei uma CDs pro meu marido aprender, nunca tive essa paciência que você tem... Na real não é nem falta de paciência acho que nunca soube por onde começar. Mas você até que me deu uma dicas. Vou usar a do post it com meus filhos ;)
